Chapter 8

I sit in the room two doors away from where Veronica and Vauxhall are, counting down the minutes until I know that he'll wake up. I have Vauxhall’s phone and laptop in front of me, and I should be getting to work on those, but I wait, taking in the silence of the house, and salivating for the moment when I hear Vauxhall’s screams fill it instead. He hurt my woman. He made her scream. He made her cry. And I am practically vibrating as I wait for the moment where she does the same to him. My cock aches for the moment that she allows me back into that room and I fuck her covered in his blood. My love for her is anxious for the moment that I watch her end his life, hoping doing so will bring her some type of peace.

It feels much easier to wait a room away from her than it did to wait the five minutes I was outside of the house. Every second brought some new horrific image to my mind of what Vauxhall was doing to Veronica. From the moment I watched the car with her father in it drive away, I’d been by the front door, waiting for it to open, even when I knew she would need time to make him take the drink, for the drugs to take their effect on him. But when I’d reached three minutes of waiting and the door remained closed, I’d had to close my eyes to stay rooted to the spot; to refrain from breaking down the door and getting to Veronica, to Vauxhall. When it reached four minutes, that self-restraint faded. I walked around the house to the side door. When I looked through the kitchen window, I couldn’t see anything but spilled liquor on a bar. Now, I know it was because Veronica was on the floor with Vauxhall, watching the last of his consciousness bleed away from him, but in that moment, when I didn’t see the woman I love in the kitchen or living room, my mind immediately went to assuming she was in the bedroom.

I picked the lock as quickly as I could with trembling hands and came through the door. But when I came in, I found Vauxhall on the floor, and Veronica running towards me from where she’d been by the front door. The relief that rushed through me was like nothing I’d ever felt before. I feel none of the anxiety I did during those five minutes now as I reach the end of this countdown. There’s only a grim happiness filling me at knowing what Veronica is about to do to Vauxhall. I can’t wait to see it.

Exactly sixty seconds after the thirty minutes I told her it would probably be before he woke up, I hear the first shout, him demanding to be let go. Her laughter fills the house, and I smile at it.

“I said those words once,” I hear her voice say.
